Identify Smart Card

To effectively troubleshoot smart card (PIV) issues and identify compatible readers, you will need to know the type of smart card you have been issued. There are currently three types of smart cards in use within the VA. The card type can be distinguished by the serial number on the back.

CMS V5.5 (serial number starts with “OT“)
USAccess V7 (serial number starts with “4280“)
USAccess V8.1 (serial number starts with “087507“)
